Gas Power, Accelerated
The tried-and-true gas engine still has its place in the Ford vehicle lineup. And beyond traditional internal combustion technology, there’s also Ford EcoBoost®. EcoBoost engines combine turbocharging, direct fuel injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT).
EcoBoost: Big Performance, Small Engine
With impressive overall performance, EcoBoost provides the muscle of a bigger displacement engine with fuel economy in mind.
How EcoBoost® Works
Constantly adjusting and optimizing the engine and transmission operation as you drive. That’s just the beginning of what goes into EcoBoost engine performance.
Three Technologies Working Together
Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT)
The opening and closing of both the intake and exhaust valves are continuously adjusted while the engine is running. At peak demand, timing is controlled to help maximize the torque and power. This helps minimize fuel consumption during lower-load operation.
Turbocharged Performance
Energy from engine exhaust—that would otherwise be wasted—now rotates in a turbine. Coupled to a compressor, incoming air is pressurized into the combustion chambers. In turn, it generates a virtually instantaneous surge of on-demand power… and significantly increases output per liter.
Direct Fuel Injection
Direct injection takes a precise amount of fuel, delivered in a fine mist, fed directly into the combustion chamber. This helps to maximize power output when you need it.
The Classic Gas Engine, Still a Powerful Choice
Ford Mustang® and Ford F-Series® trucks. These two Ford icons take traditional gasoline engine technology to the opposite extremes. From V8 power that needs a race track to contain it… to V8 engines that work hard and play hard, under the hoods of F-150® and Super Duty®.
5.0L Ti-VCT V8
It’s street-legal. But just barely. This modified version of the naturally aspirated Gen-4 5.0L Coyote V8 engine allows the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse coupe to unleash 500 horsepower and 418 lb.-ft. of torque on track days.
5.2L Supercharged V8
Available on the 2024 F-150 Raptor R™, it’s the most powerful high-performance engine ever put in an F-150 truck. 720 horsepower and 640 lb.-ft. of torque mean that adrenaline-pumping off-road excitement is always there for the waiting.
7.3L OHV PFI V8
Select Super Duty® models offer the largest, most powerful gas engines available in their class. With a best-in-class maximum available 430 horsepower and 485 lb.-ft. of torque, it’s ready for your workday.
