Polestar 2

Polestar, a high-performance electric car brand owned by Geely and Volvo Car Group, produces the Polestar 2, an all-electric compact luxury car. The Polestar 2 shares many similar design components to the Volvo XC40, has very sleek and minimalistic design choices and gets an estimated range of up to 434km.

As the Polestar 2 is a fully electric vehicle, it comes with plenty of power on tap. This means it has up to 402 HP and a 0-100 as low as 4.5 seconds. While Polestar has a focus on performance, you will find this to be on the more luxurious side of a rider rather than sporty.

The Polestar 2 can come equipped with Harman Kardon Premium Sound for unparalleled acoustic performance. A full-length panoramic glass roof. Air quality software and WeaveTech seats. The Polestar 2 Plus package includes all the features that elevate the driving experience even further.

How Does The Mustang Mach-E Compare?

If you’re looking for a sporty drive, the Mustang Mach E pulls ahead.

Depending on your enthusiasm for sporty driving, there is a Mustang Mach E for you. The Select trim is the most comparable to the Polestar 2 as it comes with more economical features, RWD as standard and great range. The one thing that the Polestar 2 doesn’t give room for is building out a fun, sporty spec. The Polestar 2 comes as is and leaves a little to be desired in the customization department.

The Polestar 2 can be equipped with the Performance Pack, Which includes upgraded brakes, upgraded suspension, a software upgrade, different wheels, and special colour seatbelts. The Mach-E also offers similar options and even more, while delivering a far sportier drive. That makes the Mach-E a much more appealing vehicle.

Tesla Model Y

Tesla is often labelled as the pioneer of the electric car industry and the main influence in the progression of this rapidly expanding market. The Model Y is the latest of the now four Tesla Models to choose from, offering a blend of both Sedan and SUV characteristics.

Tesla offers very limitedly in the way of dynamic driving, as the models come with next to no customization, and only 2 trim levels. Your options are either the Long Range and Performance version. Though it is lacking true performance characteristics, the Long Range model comes with an estimated 531km of range.

The Tesla Model Y Performance maintains relatively impressive stats despite the changes it received to gain an increase in performance. It gets roughly 488km of range with a 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. This model receives different wheels, upgraded brakes, lowered suspension, and a few other minute changes that have limited performance-enhancing capabilities.

How Does The Mustang Mach-E Compare?

The Mustang Mach-E offers a lot more.

As you may know, Teslas are very simple. They offer extremely limited customization and have stripped-down interiors consisting mostly of only one, single centre screen to control almost every function. The Tesla Model Y feels like it’s missing something. This is where the Mach-E comes in, providing a much more finished feeling interior, featuring multiple screens, physical buttons and switches,

Tesla has put focused on working on their technology and seem to have forgotten that they ae manufacturing cars. This has caused the Tesla lineup to experience a ton of quality control issues such as paint defects, panel gaps, and a host of other fit and finish-related problems not to mention the wait time it takes to get parts for a Tesla. The Mustang Mach-E, built by Ford, has none of these issues as the infrastructure is there, the experience is there, and the passion is there. Mach-E owners will find exceptional build quality and materials throughout while having a host of proprietary tech similar to what Tesla offers called BlueCruise.

KIA EV6

At the lowest starting price, the KIA EV6 is a relatively new entrant into the EV market and is up against some fierce competition. The KIA EV6 boasts a very unique design, something only an EV could pull off. This might be seen as a large deciding factor when deciding which EV might interest you.

Despite being an economy brand, KIA has always focused on tech in their vehicles. The Base Trim comes standard with features such as Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Lane Keep Asisst and Lane Follow Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Heated Front Seats and so much more. Being an electric vehicle, you can expect the tech to fairly impressive.

The KIA EV6 offers many different trim levels based on the drivetrain, whether you want RWD or AWD, a longer-range battery, more power or sporty handling. The Mach-E is a great comparison to this as they have similar options in terms of trim levels regarding battery and drivetrain.

How Does The Mustang Mach-E Compare?

It’s missing the excitement.

KIA has been around for a long time, but can you point out any genuinely exciting vehicles? We didn’t think so. The Mustang Mach-E has been designed from the ground up to evoke a sense of passion and excitement in each drive, whether you drive the Select or the GT Performance Edition. The Mustang Mach-E can be equipped with everything the KIA EV6 can come with but in a better package. The Premium trim on the Mach-E caters to a more refined and relaxed commute whereas the KIA EV6’s comparable trim doesn’t provide anything outstanding. You’ll likely find that once you get in a KIA EV6, you will quickly forget what you just spent $75,000 on. The Mach-E won’t let that happen.

The KIA EV6 takes on the traditional electric vehicle trends in terms of looks, by creating an overly “futuristic” design that will age quite quickly. For some reason, all the electric vehicle manufacturers find it beneficial to push the boundaries of what a vehicle should look like and stray as far away as possible from what the consumers are looking for. When you get into the Mustang Mach-E, you’ll feel the history behind its unique and well-known design. Something to note about the Mach-E is that you have a host of ever-changing, unique colour options which can’t be said about the competition.

Hyundai Ioniq5

Hyundai has taken its stab at breaking into the all-EV market segment, offering the Ioniq5. This is an overly futuristic attempt at creating a desirable piece of tech. Out of all the competition, this is the greatest outlier in terms of design.

The Ioniq5 has some of the common tech found in modern cars, but is missing a few key things some may have come to like over the last 5 years. You may be in search of Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but you’ll have to look elsewhere if that matters to you.

The Hyundai Ioniq5 has decent interior room and has a unique design called the Univeral Isalnd. This is a moveable centre console that can slide to accomade different seating arrangements and more space. This give the appearance that the Ioniq5 has more space than it does.

How Does The Mustang Mach-E Compare?

What’s with the styling?

The Hyundai Ioniq5 comes standard with its fascinating, trendy looks as if it was pulled right out of a 1980s Sci-Fi film or arcade game. Refer to google images if you need a refresher on its interesting design that screams “I’m an electric car”. Some individuals might love the way that it is styled, while on the other hand, some may find the styling to be a bit overkill. The Mustang Mach-E takes much of its inspiration from the Mustang, as it’s in the name, and carries those design queues throughout. The Mach-E doesn’t shout from the rooftops about how it’s the future because the Mach-E can prove that in its first drive.

Being that Hyundai generally produces more budget-friendly vehicles, this can be noticed when entering the cabin. While you can spec it in a lighter colour to make it feel quite airy, it also feels low cost. The screens are on the smaller side compared to today’s standards and are surrounded by a cheap white plastic bezel. The interior also feels unfinished since there’s not really a centre console or transmission hump between driver and passenger, which almost casts the idea that you are in a work van or transport truck of some sort. The interior of the Mustang Mach-E feels much more put together and in a finished state in comparison, with a much larger centre screen, a proper centre console with a drive selector, a wireless charger, cupholders, and more.

CAR AND DRIVER

“Tesla-rivalling acceleration, stylish on the inside and out, competitive range. The Mustang Mach-E excels at being an electric SUV.”

Final Thoughts

The Mustang MAch-E is a well-rounded, great-performing electric SUV, no matter which trim level you opt for. It delivers a competitive range in all classes, excellent handling, and can be equipped with tremendous power. The competition has found that they intend on attracting a different kind of buyer with their take on an electric vehicle, and its been shown in this review. The Mustang Mach-E uses racing heritage, dynamic styling, and performance upgrades to tower over the competition from a driving standpoint. One thing to note about this EV craze is to understand that every electric vehicle is going to feel quick due to its nature, but will quickly fall apart when met with even the slightest cornering or, potentially, even a lane change.

The Mustang Mach-E takes a no-frills approach to design, only adding and taking away where it needs to. The Mach-E is distinctive in a way like no other electric SUV in this segment is. It doesn’t rely on flashy triangles on a fender or useless shapes down the side of it. Rather it relies on sculpted body lines and elegant, sweeping panels to provide a real improvement. Some may find that the Mach-E doesn’t look futuristic enough, but if having a vehicle that is going to quickly date itself, maybe the competition is for you.
